Dhahi Khalfan values UAE, Saudi links

DUBAI — Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police Force said the individual childish acts associated with the football match between Al Wasl and Al Nasr in the AGCC Clubs Championship are not acceptable.

He said: “Few fans failed to control their feelings and acted beyond the spirit of true sportsmen.

“It was a football game that will never touch the brotherly strong ties with our brothers in Saudi Arabia.”

“We will never allow such irresponsible misbehavior to happen again,” Dhahi Khalfan told newsmen during his receiption of Dr. tareq Humaid Al tayer, chairman of the UAE Football League Committee along with Brigadier Dr. Mohammed Ahmed bin Fahad, chairman of Al Wasl FC and Yousuf Mohammed Abdullah, secretary general of the UAEFA. The reception was attended by Brigadier Dr. Khamis Matar, eputy commander in chief of the Dubai Police.

Dhahi urged the Saudi brothers in Al Nasr Club to take immediate action against the manager and supervisor of the website of their club for their misconduct.

The electronic web site published materials against the brotherly relationships and the values of Islam which is a crime punishable by law.

Dhahi also called for the set up of a special committee to visit all the football clubs and reassure that all stadiums are according to the specifications and requirements of the world football governing body (FIFA) and ensure that all safety measures are complied with.

Meanwhile, Dr. Humaid Al Tayer praised the continued cooperation between the UFL and Dubai Police pointing out that what has happened during the game between Al Wasl and Al Nasr was an individual act.

“We are reviewing all arrangements to ensure the safety of the teams, referees and staff,” he said.
