Two Jet Airways flights, one from New Delhi and the other from Mumbai, had landed at Brussels around the time of the blast.
"Today is a black day for #Europe. The horrible events in #Brussels affect us all. We are steadfastly at the Belgians' side," German Justice Minister Heiko Maas said on Twitter.
Belgium has now raised its terror threat to its highest level.
"The safety of our passengers, crew and staff is always our top priority and will not be compromised."
At this time passengers are unable to access the departure terminal which has been closed due to this incident.

Deadly attacks on Tuesday at the Brussels airport and a metro station in the city are the latest in a string of attacks in Europe in recent years.
