A school where a 4-year-old student tragically drowned will close its doors on Thursday to mourn his death. Regular school operations will resume on Monday.
This decision came on the heels of a press release issued by the Sharjah Education Council which promised their full cooperation and assistance throughout the investigation.
The school notified all parents via email and text message regarding the incident and the subsequent closure decision.
No comment or statement has been released from the school regarding the tragedy.
A principal at another school in Sharjah indicated that procedures in such cases begin with an investigation into the incident and all parties involved.
If the investigation reveals that that child had drowned during a swimming class, the PE teacher will be held responsible. If the child had snuck into the swimming pool area on his own, the lifeguard will be held responsible in such cases.

Strong action

The Sharjah Education Council had expressed its deepest, most heartfelt condolences to the family of the 4-year-old child who drowned during school hours.
They will be cooperating with the Ministry of Education for a follow-up investigation of the incident.
Teams were immediately dispatched from the Sharjah Education Council to provide any assistance to the school administration throughout the investigation.
The council will await any legal procedures which may be taken by the authorities in the matter. Strong measures will be taken against the parties responsible for the boy's death pending the council's investigation, asserts Mohammed Al Mulla, director of the SEC.
Student safety is the administration's top priority, the release added. The results and all ensuing action will be announced after the investigation is complete, the council concluded.

Tragedy strikes

The four-year-old Emirati boy had drowned in the swimming pool of a well-known private school in Sharjah.
The operations room received the emergency call at 10.30am on Wednesday.
Teams from Sharjah's Industrial Area Police station and ambulance vehicles were immediately dispatched to the school.
The child was rushed to Al Qasimi hospital where medical staff attempted to resuscitate him but to no avail.
