A traffic officer from Abu Dhabi police was killed on duty by a reckless motorist in Al Ain.
Sergeant Ali Saeed Kharbash Al Saadi was in a police patrol car when the driver rammed into him on Friday morning, according to police.
The police officer was clearing traffic at the Hallami tunnel in Al Ain city where a car accident occurred earlier in the morning.
The traffic officer was pronounced dead after the crash.
The funeral prayer of Al Saadi was conducted at the Matyr Omar Al Maqbali Mosque in Al Ain.
Hundreds of residents in Al Ain city, including elders and police officers participated in the police officer's last prayer.
His body was laid to rest at a cemetery in Umm Ghafa on Friday afternoon.
The death of the police officer devastated residents of Al Ain city who spent the weekend grieving and mourning the deceased.
Abu Dhabi Police have expressed regret over the tragic incident and sent out their deepest condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased.
Police said Al Saadi was a committed and disciplined officer who served diligently throughout his career. May the almighty Allah have mercy on his soul.
