A 35-year-old Pakistani bicyclist - Muhammad Irfan - died after he was run over by a speeding car in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah on Monday.
On being alerted about the accident, the central operations room of the Ras Al Khaimah Police immediately dispatched traffic patrols, an ambulance, paramedics and rescue teams to the site.
"The paramedics tried to resuscitate the victim on the spot, but in vain. They had to rush him to the Saqr hospital around 9:10pm," RAK Police sources said.
Medical sources pointed out that the man was in a critical condition when admitted to the emergency section of the hospital.
"The doctors on duty tried several times to revive him but couldn't as he continued to sink." The man was declared dead in the intensive care unit, they added.
"The victim was suffering from serious injuries and fractures all over his body, mainly in his head, and was also excessively bleeding."
Early this December, a 57-year-old Asian resident succumbed to fatal injuries he received after he was run over by a car driven by a 26-year-old Emirati man in Ras Al Khaimah.
Police sources said all motorists need to be focused on the wheel, observe speed limit on all roads of the emirate and be attentive and cautious while driving.
"Pedestrians and bikers should always be given priority on the road, mainly on the zebra crossing areas, while all passers-by need to check if the road is clear before they cross."
Many run-over accidents and road casualties have been recently reported, according to official records. "A fine of Dh500 and six black points shall be slapped against a driver who doesn't give priority to pedestrians, as per Article 43 of the Federal Traffic Law."
