An Emirati biker succumbed to his fatal injuries after the 24-year-old's motorbike rammed into a big pick-up vehicle on the Rams road opposite the Interlock factory in Ras Al Khaimah.
The victim, identified only as Ahmed Sultan, died on the spot due to the impact of the collision, a senior police officer said.
The central operations room of the RAK police dispatched traffic patrols, ambulances, rescue teams, paramedics, and civil defence teams to the site in a record time.
Lt-Col Ayman Al Ubad, chief of the Rams police station, late on Wednesday said they were alerted about the horrible mishap around 1.40pm.
"Initial assessment shows that the deceased was properly riding his bike on the correct lane heading from Al Rams area to Shamal. The accident happened when the big pick-up vehicle took a U-turn."
The 47-year-old Asian driver made a U-turn without making sure the road was clear, he stated.
"The Emirati motorbiker did not have enough time to avoid the terrible collision with the pick-up and died on the spot."
The body was shifted to the morgue of the hospital, while the accident file was referred to the bodies concerned for legal action, he added.
"All drivers are urged to be extra cautious and attentive on the road, and never ever make a U-turn or enter a road without it being clear."
"Observing speed limit on internal roads and highways is also so critical," he pointed out.
"Speeding has been blamed for many deadly accidents."
