The initiative is being carried out by Sharjah City Centre in coordination with the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) are helping special needs children to learn the ‘tools of life’ with informative and educational shopping experience.

Special needs children aged between nine and 11 from Al Wafaa School, coming under the SCHS umbrella, have been visiting Sharjah City Centre in small groups since late January and will continue to do so each week through this month. The programme is aimed at achieving a complete integration of people with special needs into the society at the social, educational, health and environmental levels, in addition to ensuring equal opportunities. One of these aspects is independence like when shopping. Visits to Carrefour are at the centre of the exercise for the students each week. In groups, students learn time and money management relating to costs of food items, navigation of the supermarket isles, shopping etiquette and even how to check out and pay for the items. Anna Mansour, Manager, Sharjah City Centre Mall said: “This is worthwhile initiative underscores the importance of the community’s role to facilitate integration.
