The Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec), in partnership with other higher educational institutions, has addressed this worry by launching this year’s Sayfuna Mumayaz (Our Distinguished Summer) programme.
The programme will run from July 1 to 26. Enrolment will commence on June 24.
Sayfuna Mumayaz aims to provide students, including those with special needs, with a variety of positive learning experiences that are fun and at the same time add value to their knowledge, skills and capabilities.
“There are 70 Sayfuna Mumayaz sites in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Gharbia. The programme will cater to 22,000 students from Grades 2 to 9 and 5,200 Grades 9-11students,” Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of School Operations at the Adec, said recently.
The programme includes classroom/academic activities that would stimulate their critical thinking, problem solving and creativity skills, and hands-on works such as art and crafts, woodwork, fashion, beauty, cooking, drawing and painting, flower decoration, photography, electronics and folklore dance, among others.
Physical activities include sports, swimming, Jiu Jitsu, judo, wrestling, aikido, football, karate, horse riding, table tennis and billiards. In addition, there will also be educational games such as chess.
New activities will also be introduced in keeping with the Holy Month of Ramadan. The educational institutions that will participate in the programme include UAE University, which will offer International Computer Driving License (ICDL) and English skills programmes for students in Al Ain. Abu Dhabi University and the Higher Colleges of Technology will offer ICT programmes to students in Abu Dhabi.
