A young Arab man is standing trial at the Ras Al Khaimah misdemeanour court for allegedly harassing and stalking a young Arab woman to the extent of following her home.
The accused had allegedly been so persistent, requesting the woman's phone number several times - and when he didn't get what he wanted, he reportedly turned violent and damaged her car.
According to prosecution records, he tried to stop the young woman on her way out of a café in RAK around three weeks ago, mid-December 2018.
The accused gave her his phone number three times, but she turned him down and refused to talk to him or give him her number.
He did not give up and followed her all the way to her home - and instead of parking on the street, he drove his car inside the house's parking space.
The defendant opened his car window and allegedly swore at the young woman. He then put his car on reverse and rammed her car as recorded by the surveillance cameras in a nearby building.
The defendant, however, denied all the accusations. He told the court that he was sitting at the same café where the complainant was, adding that they incidentally got out of the café at the same time.
He denied tracking her down, offering her his mobile phone number, or requesting hers.
Refuting the claim that he drove to the parking area of the woman's house, he argued that the surveillance cameras must have recorded so many cars like his own.
"I did not swear at her or damage her car," he told the court, noting that the complainant did not have any eyewitnesses.
The court, having heard the defendant's arguments, ordered the case adjourned until a verdict is reached.
