A 29-year-old worker, accused of robbing a Pakistani man of cash and his mobile phone, has been given a suspended jail term by a Dubai court.
The Dubai public prosecution accused the Pakistani defendant of assaulting, together with runaway accomplices, the victim and causing him an eye injury before robbing him of Dh3,500 and his phone, worth Dh1,000, on July 27.
The Dubai Court of First Instance ordered the deportation of the defendant.
The incident was reported at Al Muraqqabat police station. He has been placed in detention.
A police sergeant said that they received a complaint from a Pakistani man. "He recounted how he was assaulted by two compatriots behind a restaurant in Al Muteena in Al Muraqqabat around 11pm after he refused to have sex with them. The man was left with an eye injury and they stole Dh3,500 from his wallet and his mobile phone."
The complainant led the police to the crime scene but no surveillance cameras were found there.
"Based on the descriptions he gave, an informant tipped us off about the whereabouts of one of the suspects. We arrested him around 8.30pm on October 6," the sergeant told the prosecutor.
A forensic report and a medical report showed that the complainant was left with a bruise around his eye.
The complainant's mobile phone was found with the defendant.
The latter has the right to appeal the ruling within 15 days.
