A 23-year-old woman went on trial at the Court of First Instance on the charge of assaulting three police officers.
The court heard that on September 20 last year, the Kazakh woman, holder of a visit visa, was at Al Qusais police detention centre when she assaulted a policeman and two women cops. She also insulted them, spat on the officers and flashed her finger.
She damaged the washroom of her cell after she punched and kicked it.
The woman faces charges of assaulting and verbally abusing on-duty police officers, and damaging public property.
She remains in detention.
The policeman said he was on the job on September 20 last year when he heard screams. "It was the defendant. She wouldn't let the two policewomen handcuff her.
She was also talking to them very disrespectfully. As I stepped in to bring her under control, I got assaulted too."
The police sergeant recounted how the accused fiercely pushed her and her colleague while resisting them. "She beat us, spat on us and flashed her finger in our face while using abusive language. She did not want to let us put the handcuffs on her. The woman did not spare our colleague either."
A police corporal corroborated the officers' statements during the investigation.
Two forensic reports showed that the women cops were left with pain in shoulders, arms, hands and thighs while the policeman got scratches in his right thigh.
The defendant will be sentenced on February 26.
