According to a senior officer, the 28-year-old victim who was in a neighbouring emirate was deceived by two men who impersonated policemen and told her to get into their car.
When she got inside the car, they took her to a warehouse in the Sharjah Industrial Area where she was raped by five men. They later dropped her on a road. The victim failed to figure out the exact location of the warehouse where she was raped or the registration number of the car the suspects used.
As soon as the victim reported the incident to the police, a team of Criminal Investigation Department officers was formed to investigate the case. From the descriptions given by the woman, the suspicion revolved around three Afghan men.
It was found out that one of them was detained by the police in another emirate for raping another woman and making her pregnant. The police managed to arrest him and another suspect and found out that the other suspects had fled the country after the incident. The police are trying to arrest and bring them back to the country through authorised channels.
The Sharjah Police have warned residents that they must not believe if strangers claim that they are police officers. In such a case, they should immediately request the person who is claiming so to show his identity documents and the arrest warrant issued by the Public Prosecution.
