Two other women, both Uzbek visitors, aged 29 and 20, were each sentenced to one year in prison and deportation for indulging in prostitution. The verdict is subject to appeal within 15 days at the Court of Appeal. According to prosecution records, OD and NS fooled two women to come here on job offers but later forced them to work in prostitution by locking them up in their apartment and threatening to hurt them.
One of the alleged victims, a 30-year-old Uzbek, told the prosecutor that she arrived in Dubai in December last year.
She was a tailor in her home country when she met OD’s female friend who helped her come here. She promised her a job on a monthly salary of $1000. She was received by OD at the airport and taken to an apartment in Abu Hail in Muraqqabat where she was held up. Her passport was taken from her. She saw women there, Russians and Uzbeks.
In her statement in the investigation, she said that she was forced into prostitution under threat. She was told that she had to pay back the costs of her visa and travel. OD threatened to kill her if she did not do as she was told. Hence she worked as a prostitute for OD who collected the money.
In January, she managed to escape along with the other victim. She was injured when she tried to escape through the window using a blanket.
The other woman complainant, a 24-year-old Uzbek, gave the same statement in the investigation. She said that they sought the help of their consulate. The police arrested OD outside her apartment. A police lieutenant quoted OD as saying that the complainants were working in prostitution willingly.
