The Ras Al Khaimah police have arrested an Arab driver involved in premeditatedly damaging a car, running over an old Arab woman, and fleeing the scene.
The 25-year-old driver, who later proved to have a criminal record, has partially destroyed a four-wheel-drive car parked in front of the victim's house at the Al Mamura area in the northern emirate.
"The suspect has run over the old Arab woman on purpose, following which the victim received gruesome injuries," Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police, said late on Thursday.
The victim was rushed to the intensive care unit of the Saqr hospital in a critical condition, he added. "The RAK police initiated investigations and managed to identify the driver involved in accident."
Lt-Col Waleed Kanfash, Chief of the Mamura police, said they were alerted about the mishap on Thursday morning, about 11am. "We have been informed that an old woman has been shifted to the hospital after being rammed over by an unidentified driver."
Investigations showed that the erring driver ran over the 62-year-old victim on purpose, he added. "The suspect had even damaged the SUV car parked in front of the victim's house owning to earlier disputes."
The old woman got out of her house and asked the suspect to stop damaging her car, but instead, he did not give a head and went to his house, which is close to the victim's house, he explained.
"Surprisingly, he got on his car, drove to the victim's car, rammed into it, and ran over the victim who received serious injuries, and was admitted to the intensive care unit."
The suspect then escaped the scene, but the RAK police Special Forces, managed to track him down, identify his hideout, and arrested him, Lt-Col Kanfash said.
"When he was surprised by the RAK police, he attacked them using a knife, but the well-trained security men controlled him, and referred him to the bodies concerned."
