Two years in jail for bid on rent collector’s life

A 23-year-old Asian worker has been sentenced to two years in jail followed by deportation for attempting to murder a man by stabbing him. The convict was also ordered to pay a fine of Dh1,000. The ruling was passed by the Dubai criminal court on Monday morning.

The 42-year-old Asian victim told the Public Prosecution that he was in the Hor Al Anz area, collecting the monthly rent of villas in favour of the office he worked for. After collecting Dh6,000 against the rent of two villas, he noticed the accused stalking him.

The victim said when he reached villa No 18, the accused reached closer to him. He drew a knife and stabbed the victim in the left side of his body thrice. The victim received two stabs below his abdomen, two stabs in his left arm and another stab in his chin.

The attacker tried to snatch the victim’s wallet which contained Dh6,300 and tried to steal his mobile phone but the victim resisted which made him flee the scene. The victim cried for help as he was bleeding heavily following eight stabs wounds.

A passersby and the victim described the man to police and a police patrol car spotted him standing in front of a restaurant in the same area where the crime had taken place. The criminal was arrested in blood-stained clothing and the knife used in the crime was found concealed under his clothing

Questioning him about the murder bid, the criminal said he stabbed the victim due to a dispute over money related to prostitution. The suspect was taken to Al Muraqqabat Police Station and was referred to the Public Prosecution which charged him of attempted to murder.
