A businessman allegedly threatened to kill a trader and dispose of his body outside a police station, a Dubai court has heard.
The 36-year-old Syrian businessman, who did not attend the hearing on Sunday at the Court of First Instance, has been charged with making criminal threats.
According to prosecution records, the defendant made the threat against a Saudi national to make him drop his complaint against him and stop claiming his money back. The incident was reported at Al Qusais police station on January 13.
The complainant, a 35-year-old, told the prosecutor that he struck business deals with many people, who he realised later "were thugs".
"They were all conspiring together to commit fraud." He said the defendant was the "mastermind" of the scheme, along with a Jordanian man. The defendant was arrested and detained at Al Rashidiyah police station.
"He was later released after he deposited his passport at the police station. I later filed other complaints against the accused. He was detained twice and released in October and December 2015. And since then, I had been receiving threats from him," the trader added.
In December last year - while the case was still being examined by a court - the trader was in a car showroom in Al Aweer when he saw the defendant.
"He was driving an expensive car with no number plate and four men were with him," the complainant told the prosecutor.
He claimed the defendant threatened him by saying "if you pursue in the case, I will kill you; nobody knows you and nobody will know I did it. I will throw your body in front of the police".
The complainant said he felt scared as he could not spot any surveillance cameras in the area. He hid in a safe place from where he called the police. The defendant fled by the time the police arrived. The court adjourned the hearing to November 6.
