A grocery store in Sharjah has been shut down for selling banned items, including niswar, shenni, and other types of chewing tobacco, the municipality said on Sunday.
The store, located in a residential area, was also found selling food products that were either expired or spoiled as they were not properly stored.

Khalifa Bu Ghanem Al Suwaidi, director of the inspection and control department at the Sharjah Municipality, said the action has been taken as part of regular inspection campaigns that aimed to ensure that supermarkets and grocery stores are following safety rules and regulations.
During a visit to the store, inspectors found rotten produce, as well as banned products that were carefully hidden between various food items. These illegal goods were reportedly being offered secretly to customers.
Inspectors found that the store's owner had converted part of the shop into a warehouse, which was used to store niswar, shenni, and other prohibited products. All such goods were immediately confiscated.
Samples of all other food sold in the store were also sent to the food control department for evaluation.
The municipality vowed to ramp up inspection campaigns to eliminate such practices that could harm public health.
Al Suwaidi said the drive would continue periodically and ensure that violators are penalised.
"The municipality conducts these campaigns not only to implement the law but also to educate the community about safety regulations. The move also aims to ensure that all residents, as well as visitors, are provided with products and services of the highest standards," the official added.
