A 43-year-old man has been referred to the Court of Misdemeanours for threatening a policewoman and her husband. The Court of First Instance earlier heard how the Emirati man threatened to enter the cop's house and sexually assault her in front of her husband.
He made the threats through WhatsApp messages he sent to his ex-wife. The court referred him to the Court of Misdemeanours to stand trial on those charges, citing that the offences committed were out of its jurisdiction.
The incident took place on October 19, 2018, and was reported at Al Barsha police station.
The policewoman said during the public prosecution investigation that the defendant's wife knocked on her door around noon on the incident day. "She was barefoot after her husband beat her up and kicked her from the house as they had domestic disputes. I told her to wait until the police and ambulance arrived. Her husband later signed an order to stay away from her."
When the wife went back to her home, her husband beat her again. "She didn't return there and there was a divorce case going on between them. Sometime later, I learned from her that her husband was sending voice messages, in which he insulted me and my husband many times. I complained against him," the policewoman told the prosecutor.
During the prosecution investigation, the defendant's ex-wife said that in August last year, he sent messages to her on WhatsApp, in which he verbally abused the policewoman and her husband. She was then in her home country.
The evidence included 18 relevant voice notes. The defendant has appealed the ruling.
