A man was jailed for 7 years and fined Dh20,000 after Dubai Airport customs officials found over a thousand drug capsules in his possession. He will be deported after serving his jail term.
The 28-year-old African national was questioned by the airport officials after he was acting suspiciously, according to local Arabic sources.
They opened his hand luggage and found the capsules in plain sight, atop his things.
After analyzing the substance, they discovered 1,120 capsules of Pregabalin.
Upon questioning, the man attempted to derail suspicion by claiming the pills were for his brother who resides in Dubai.
Officials remained unconvinced of his alibi because of the way the capsules were placed.
