A 33-year-old worker stood trial at a Dubai court for molesting a nine-year-old boy.
Public prosecution records show the incident happened on January 12 when the Bangladeshi man spotted the boy with his parents at Ras Al Khor reserve. He tricked the child into going with him to see the flamingos and then molested him.
The accused denied a molestation charge at the Court of First Instance. Prosecutors have sought the most severe legal penalty possible against him as he remains in detention.
During investigation, the boy from South Africa said that he was with his parents at the reserve. "That man came and told me to go with him to see the flamingos."
The boy recounted how the worker hugged him tightly from behind and inappropriately touched him while they were away from sight.
He ran away from the man and told his father about it.
The father said he was with his family at the reserve. "I was filming the birds when the worker offered my son to go see them. However, my son came back about two minutes later. He looked shocked and could not speak for a while. My son told me that the worker pressed his body against his from behind and touched him in a bad way."
The father described the worker as being agitated and scared when he was confronted about the incident. "He claimed he touched my son's shoulder only. I called the police on him," the complainant told the prosecutor.
The father lodged a complaint at Al Rashidiya police station.
The defendant will be sentenced on March 12.
