A 35-year-old man charged with causing a permanent injury to a compatriot colleague after slapping him on his left ear, has been sentenced to three months in jail.
The Court of First Instance earlier heard that the Indian man, working as an accountant, slapped the victim on his left ear and pushed him, causing him to fall down.
The forensic report showed the damage done to the victim's ear was a permanent partial hearing loss.
The defendant denied the charge during his court appearance, claiming the other man initiated the assault on him.
He was found guilty by the court which also ordered he be deported after serving his jail term.
The 36-year-old complainant, an Indian accountant, said that around 9:30am on November 28, 2016, he was at his workplace in Umm Rumoul when he and the defendant had a conversation about the latter's deducting money from his salary. "We had a verbal brawl which evolved into him pushing me and slapping me on my left ear. I lost balance and then fell down. I complained against him at Al Rashidiya police station."
A 30-year-old Indian accountant, who witnessed the incident, told the prosecutor: "The victim approached me on that day asking about the reason behind his salary deduction. I told him that he did not report to work for some time and that he should talk to the other accountant -- the accused -- about that matter as he was the person in-charge. They had an argument later and then the defendant pushed him, causing him to fall down."
