A man who is charged with molesting an Indian girl inside a supermarket has been sentenced to six months in jail by a Dubai court.
Public prosecution records show that the incident took place on April 4 this year.
According to court documents, the girl was alone when the Moroccan man groped her. He deliberately stood close behind her so that he could touch her. The incident took place in a store Freej Al Murar in Naif.
The Dubai Court of First Instance found him guilty of the charge and ordered his deportation. He denied the charge in court.
The 29-year-old man is currently in detention.
The 11-year-old Indian girl recounted during the police investigation that she was at the supermarket at 7:30 pm when the defendant approached her. He hugged her quickly and touched her inappropriately more than once.
She went back home and told her aunt about him. The aunt then reported the incident to the police.
The girl's father said he was outside the country when the incident took place. He learned that his daughter cried as she was telling her aunt about it.
A police sergeant said they arrested the accused at 8 pm on April 6 after receiving the complaint. "The surveillance cameras captured the defendant molesting the victim."
The officer told the prosecutor that the man admitted to the charge. He said that he made a mistake.
The ruling has been appealed.
