A 49-year-old unemployed man has been sentenced to three months in jail for molesting a three-year-old boy on the beach.
The Sri Lankan is accused of approaching the boy while he was playing on the beach and kissing him inappropriately on the lips.
The boy's nanny, who witnessed the incident, reported the matter to the police.
She described the accused as being under the influence of alcohol.
The Court of First Instance found him guilty of a molestation charge and ordered him to be deported after his jail term.
The incident allegedly happened on April 1.
The Filipina nanny, 40, said during the public prosecution investigation that she was with the boy at around 6.20pm on Jumeirah beach when the defendant approached them.
"He began talking to the boy asking how he was doing and telling him to get closer to him. He smelt of alcohol," she told the prosecutor.
The nanny said she was surprised when the man suddenly kissed the boy for about three seconds on the lips.
"When I asked him why he did it, he insulted me. He also told me it was none of my business and that I was only the boy's nanny.
She called the police adding that the way the defendant kissed the little boy was inappropriate.
A Filipina housemaid, 48, said she was also with the nanny and the boy at the time of the incident. She confirmed having seen the defendant sitting on his knees in front of the boy - who was then playing - kissing him and then giving him a rose.
A police sergeant quoted the accused as admitting to have kissed the kid. "He claimed the kiss was spontaneous and did not mean anything." The verdict may be appealed within 15 days.
