The case dated back to April this year, when the man's 17-year-old son, M.A.H, reported to the Town police station that he had been thrashed by his father and suffered several injuries on his body. Medical reports showed that the boys' hearing deteriorated, and accordingly his father was summoned by the police.

On interrogation, he denied the charges, saying that his son had been staying out late at night and he had to pay Dh10,000 to settle a problem the son had caused earlier.

The case was referred to the Public Prosecution, which accused A.B. of physically abusing his son and referred the case to the Court of First Instance. Presiding judge of the court bench Sheikh bin Dhahi adjourned the hearing to see some papers the alleged victim's mother had submitted on the incident. At the hearing, the victim who was in his father's custody insisted not to give up his right. Hence, the court issued a three-month suspended jail sentence against A.B. and slapped him with a fine of Dh3,000 for beating up his son.

He contested the verdict at the Court of Appeal which cleared him. news@khaleejtimes.com
