A 28-year-old Asian maid was arrested for stealing Dh27,900 cash, jewellery and an iPad from her employer in Ajman.
On receiving a complaint, the Ajman Police swung into action and nabbed the maid - identified as M.A.K - from the airport within an hour.
Maj Ahmad Saeed Al Nuaimi, acting director of CID, said an Emirati national - identified as A.M.K - lodged a complaint stating that his maid opened the locker of his safe and stole Dh27, 900, his wife's jewellery and an iPad as well as her passport. She decamped with the stuff and was untraceable.
A team of CID officers was formed to launch an extensive search for the maid. "We received information that the maid was at Dubai International Airport and trying to flee the country."
The Ajman Police coordinated with their Dubai counterparts and caught her at the departure hall minutes before she could fly out.
During interrogation, the maid confessed to her crime and was then referred to the public prosecution.
Al Nuaimi urged the public to be cautious while dealing with domestic helpers and not leave valuables in unsafe places.
"Ajman Police have zero tolerance against those who try to tamper with the security of the country and the safety of citizens and residents in the emirate," he warned.
