An African housemaid stood trial at the Fujairah Criminal Court for allegedly stealing Dh30,000 from the house of her sponsor during absence of the family.
The domestic helper denied the charges, contending that she had been working with her sponsor for a long time and never committed any wrongdoing.
"I have been very sincere and honest with my sponsor during my long service."
She added that she did her regular cleaning work in all the rooms of the house.
"This happened when he (the sponsor) and his wife were not in the house." When they came back, they checked their money and discovered some cash missing, she pointed out.
"They immediately accused me of stealing Dh30,000 without any proof."
The court ordered adjournment of the case to next week to issue its ruling.
