Lieutenant Colonel Saif Al Matroushi, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Ajman Police, said that they received a complaint from a victim who claimed that he withdrew a large sum of money from a bank in Ajman, then left it in a bag in his car before heading to a shopping outlet. Upon his return, he noticed that the car window had been smashed and the money was missing.
Based on the information, police deployed a team of CID officers to trace the suspect and after they carried out the investigation, they managed to identify the suspects and arrested them after they were spotted loitering around banks, on the lookout for more victims.
During interrogation, the gang members confessed to the crime, informing officers that they observed the movements of bank clients who withdrew cash and then followed them. They said if the victim stopped the vehicle somewhere, they would approach the car and smash the window in order to steal the money. They further informed police that if the vehicle did not stop, they would distract the victim in the car before snatching the cash and fleeing the scene. It was revealed that they carried the crimes out across several emirates.
The Ajman Police contacted the police departments in these emirates and discovered that there were many complaints about the gang.
The five men have been referred to the Public Prosecution.
