The Court of Misdemeanours found the 29-year-old British woman, who works as an executive in a recruitment company, and her Irish partner, a 27-year-old resident, guilty of illicit consensual sex and committing indecent acts in public. They were each given a three-month jail sentence to be followed by deportation. They had denied these charges earlier in court.
They were also slapped with a fine of Dh3,000 each for consuming liquor, a charge to which they earlier pleaded guilty.
The couple’s lawyer is set to appeal the verdict. The incident happened in an evening in May and was reported by the Pakistani cabbie, who was driving the couple. He informed the police and the prosecutors that he spotted the woman sitting on her partner’s lap and engaging in what obviously appeared to be a sexual activity. He was to drive them to Dubai Marina as per their request.
According to prosecution records, the cab driver pulled over and reported the pair to an on-duty patrol police officer who happened to be around. The officer reportedly spotted the two partially undressed, and they both looked heavily drunk.
