Salah bu Farroucha Al Felasi, Dubai Traffic Chief Prosecutor, said that in one case, an Emirati national, 24, has been sentenced to one year in jail and had his driving licence suspended for one year starting from the day he completed his prison sentence. He was also fined Dh20,000. The accused was found guilty of using, possessing narcotics and driving under the influence of drugs, without paying attention while driving on a road in Muhaisna 4 in May, which resulted in his car running into another for not keeping enough distance. The accident resulted in material damage to both the cars.
In another case, a 34-year-old Emirati has been jailed for one year, fined Dh20,000 and had his driving licence suspended for a year, effective from the day he completes his jail sentence. He was found guilty of using narcotics in June and driving under the influence of drugs and being unattentive while driving on Rabat Street in Nad-al-Hamar. He ran his vehicle into the pavement and a concrete post resulting in material damage.
In a third case, a 19-year-old Arab man has been jailed for three months and ordered to be deported for using narcotics and driving under the influence of drugs. He was found at fault for not staying in his driving lane and swerving suddenly to the opposite side. His vehicle ran into another car and his companion on the passenger seat sustained a minor injury. The accident resulted in material damage to both the cars.
Al Felasi said that the prosecution urged the court to apply strict penalties on motorists who would be proven guilty of driving under the influence of liquor or drugs in accordance with the Traffic Law, Federal Penal Code, and Anti-Narcotics Law. The court relied on the Prosecution, police investigation and technical reports handed by the Criminal Evidence Department to incriminate the defendants.
Al Felasi urged on the public to abide by the traffic laws for everyone’s safety and to avoid the legal accountability.
