Two Asian men have stood trial at the Dubai Criminal Court after they reportedly posed as cops and abducted a man. They are also facing charges of theft and possession of counterfeit currencies.
The 28-year-old complainant was getting ready for bed that night in October last year when the two defendants barged into his accommodation in Dubai’s Karama area, court records show.
“Mentioning my name, they asked whether I was the person they were looking for. When I said yes, the two accused asked me to come with them to the police station,” the complainant said.
When he refused to go with them, the two defendants reportedly assaulted him. They tied his hands, covered his eyes, and took him to an unfamiliar place, which he believed was in Deira area, according to court records.
“They stole my mobile phone, my wallet with Dh3,200, and asked if I had money in my bank account. I said I had none, so they beat me up again,” the complainant said.
After taking his belongings and discovering that he actually had no money in his account, the accused took the complainant back to his neighbourhood and, fortunately, a police patrol saw them.
As the police officer asked the complainant what was happening, he told him the truth, saying the two men had posed as cops and assaulted him. The duo denied the claim, but when the officer asked for their IDs, he discovered the crime.
While one of the defendants was browsing his phone for a copy of his ID, the cop noticed a photo of the complainant with his hands tied and eyes covered.
The police confiscated the phone and searched their car, where they found the complainant’s belongings and a bag of fake currencies. The authorities referred the duo to the public prosecution, which submitted their case to the criminal court.
The event not only celebrated the chapter's annual gathering but also marked a significant milestone as the chapter commemorated its 10th anniversary
