The Dubai Police came to the rescue of a divorced woman and her three daughters who were shabbily treated by their jobless father and left to suffer with emotional scars for 13 years.
The police came to know about their plight after the woman sought help under the Victim Support Programme. A police team swung into action and restored water and power connection of their house, while ensuring that the girls start going to school again. The police made the father pledge that he would never endanger his daughters' studies. The mother was also assured a monthly allowance to run her house.
Police said more than a decade back, the man stopped working and forced his wife to bear all the financial burden of the family. He grew relentlessly hostile towards his wife and daughters. The man humiliated them verbally as well as psychologically. The mental trauma that the girls had to undergo affected their attendance at school, the police revealed.
With no reconciliation in sight, the woman resorted to divorce. The court ruled in favour of the woman, and gave her the custody of her daughters. It also ordered the father to provide his family with maintenance and a residence. However, the man left them with the unfurnished room in the villa they were earlier living in. He even stopped paying the water and electricity bills.
The mother knocked at the doors of social support institutions for help. But the man refused to communicate with them. Hence, the woman decided to connect with Victim Support Programme on social media.
It was then that the police provided them with all the necessary support, including a monthly allowance.
Lt Colonel Rashid Abdulrahman Al Falasi, director of Criminal Control at the General Department of Criminal Investigation, said that the police teams strive to make the Victim Support Programme reach the vulnerable classes of the society and offer them aid and advice.
The police deal with every case with great confidentiality, he said and added that the programme aims at creating a happy society.
All victims are welcome to contact the police through the free toll number: 901 or email: cdi.interrogation@dubaipolice.gove.ae or the police website: www.dubaipolice.ae
