Major Ishaq Ahmed Mohammed, Director of the department, said the case came to light when the department received a call about a dispute between a wife and husband which was affecting their children. Police officials who went to sort out the problem soon realised that there is more to it than meets the eye.
It was found that the children, three of them, did not have any official documents and none of them attended school. When the police asked the father, a UAE national, why he was neglecting his children’s education, he said that he had many financial problems and hence could not afford to send them to school. He said his priority was to provide food for them. He added that every time they fell ill, he had to take them to a private clinic because they did not have any documents.
He added that his wife, a Russian, did not have a residence visa and her fines for violating the residence law had accumulated over the past nine years.
Major Ishaq said that his department has contacted the authorities concerned to provide them with official documents. The department had also initiated contact with the Ministry of Education and the Dubai Educational Zone to admit the children to public schools offering free education.
He added that the father had made a mistake in not contacting the department earlier.
However, the department was making every effort to solve the family’s problems, he added.
