A 35-year-old man has gone on trial for causing a permanent injury to a colleague after he allegedly slapped hard on his left ear.
The Court of First Instance heard that the Indian man, working as an accountant, slapped the victim - a compatriot - on his left ear and pushed him, causing him to fall down.
According to the forensic report, the victim has permanent partial hearing loss in his ear.
The defendant denied the charge in court claiming the other man assault him first.
The 36-year-old complainant, an accountant, said that at around 9:30 am on November 28, 2016, he was at his workplace in Umm Rumoul when he and the accused had a conversation about latter's salary deduction.
"We had a verbal brawl which led to him pushing and slapping my left ear. I lost my balance and fell down. I complained against him at Al Rashidiyah police station."
A 30-year-old Indian accountant, who witnessed the incident, told the prosecutor: "The victim approached me on that day asking about the reason behind his salary deduction. I told him that he wasn't at work when the deduction took place and that he should talk to another accountant (the complainant) about that matter as he was the person in charge. They had an argument later and then the defendant pushed him causing him to fall down."
A report from the general directorate of criminal evidence and criminology said that the victim was left with a minor hearing loss in his left ear due to the incident.
The court is expected to issue a ruling on April 16.
