About 4,000 fake and unlicensed products including herbal cans, children toys, lenses and other items have been seized in Abu Dhabi.
The Abu Dhabi City Municipality said on Wednesday that they have confiscated 1400 eye lenses, 2044 children gelatin cans, 21 unlicensed herbal packets and 35 adulterated crèmes falling short of the required specifications.
The items were identified during an inspection campaign targeting tents selling outlets in Baniyas area to verify their compliance with public health standards and respect of the civilised appearance of the city.
The campaigns also aimed at combating the selling of fake products falling short of the applicable health standards, ensure that the product tag is affixed in place, and showing the country of origin, date of manufacturing and contents written in Arabic or English.
The campaign stems from the keenness of the Department of Municipal Affairs & Transport - Abu Dhabi City Municipality to provide best facilities and standards of exhibited items and improve the public hygiene and safety of all community members.
The inspection teams intensify their activities during events, Eids and the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.
Morning and evening inspections campaigns are made targeting those tent and consumables selling outlets to ensure their compliance with public health standards, said a municipal statement.
The campaign also verifies the compliance of products on offer with the stipulated specification and the Municipality takes the matter seriously and slaps offences when violations are detected. The overall objective of the campaign is to provide a safe and healthy shopping environment for visitors of these outlets.
The campaign also inspected the materials on display along with their soundness for consumption. The ADM destroys any materials involving health risks to community members such as expired items or those noncompliant with the health conditions. The campaigns were comprehensive and covered the entire place and contents to combat the selling of any unlawful products.
The municipality calls on traders offering goods for sale to cooperate with the concerned bodies and comply with the health standards in place. They have to ensure that their products are compatible with the rules governing these activities. It cautioned the public against trading or consuming such items as they are unsafe and have the potential to cause illnesses over the long run.
