AFOCH campus gets cricket pitch

DUBAI — The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup has left behind a trail of events where the game is maintained at a high pitch especially here in the UAE.

A preview report from the Armed Forces Officers Club & Hotel (AFOCH) in Abu Dhabi said, the employees were united during the recent World Cup.

With a strong focus on team spirit and employee relations the management of AFOCH screened the matches in the Hotel’s cinema hall for all staff to enjoy. Inspired by the Cricket World Cup and the passion displayed by the employees the AFOCH’s Director General Saeed Khamis Al Dhaheri assigned and authorised a field for a cricket pitch to be developed within the AFOCH grounds. The AFOCH Cricket Committee (ACC) has been formed including AFOCH Directors and key management personnel.

The ACC have been instrumental in the formation of 15 teams. Each team comprises of 15 players totalling 225 employees. The inauguration of the cricket pitch and the first tournament will take place on Friday — first ball 7.30am.

The ACC Tournament will run for 6 weeks with the winning team receiving an impressive trophy.

Other awards include: Man of the Match, Best Bowler & Best Batsman. The next tournament will see the winning team defending the trophy.

This initiative and investment by the management of the AFOCH is the organisations’ commitment to employee wellbeing, the bridging of cultures through sports, encouragement and recognition of team work and a healthy work/life balance.
