Sometimes, leaders can be so far removed from daily operations that they forget they are managing humans, not robots

When we get back to normality one day or a close enough facsimile of it many of us will look back on these months with regret for lost opportunity. This fact was rammed home to me a couple of days ago when a message flashed on my mobile phone screen saying I had spent four odd extra hours than normal in usage. I had good reason so that did not upset me too much since my forays into the virtual world of audio-visual captivity are limited by sloth and a natural indifference to living vicariously through the lives and activities of others.
But take a little stock of yourself. How many non-productive hours have you wasted watching movies including ones you have seen before? How many minutes squandered on Instagram and Facebook soaking up drivel on people you don't know you and who are not even aware of your existence? Spending turns of the clock digesting advice on WhatsApp forwards or chatting mindlessly, either looking at Tiktok shenanigans or trawling the deep waters of YouTube.
What exactly did you gain out of this grotesque self-indulgence? The honest answer would be not very much of worth, just passing time.
That is just it. You don't ever get it back so never waste it or let it pass unrequited. I like to think I use it well and flatter myself with dollops of self deception. But by and large I do try to keep a decent relationship with the sand in the glass and when you get to my age makes sense to give every moment a certain respect and gravitas.
It is not yet over this crisis so become more productive, even if it means reading a book. Lot better than watching reruns or how the Kadarshians live.
