Sharjah is setting up a field hospital for emergency Covid-19 cases, which will be ready in a month, the authorities said on Wednesday.
Major-General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police and head of the local emergency and crisis team, said the police have been working with relevant entities to launch the hospital as part of the government’s nationwide programme to curb the spread of the Covid virus.
The field hospital will come up in Sharjah’s Al Zahia area, he said. “Work on the hospital will start tomorrow, in coordination with the Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap). It is expected to be completed in one month.”
The Al Zahia facility will accommodate any serious cases of Covid-19, including those that require emergency care, Maj-Gen Al Shamsi said. To be operated in cooperation with Mohap, the hospital will be accepting patients from across the country.
The Sharjah Police chief pointed out that in the emirate, a high rate of Covid infection has been recorded among workers, and not citizens.
Besides the implementation of all precautionary measures, vaccination is in full swing, he said. Jab centres have been witnessing high turnouts. Starting next week, residents will be able to get the vaccine at police stations across Sharjah.
Maj-Gen Al Shamsi urged all establishments and community members to support the UAE’s vaccination campaign and help end the pandemic.
