The Sharjah Municipality has teamed up with government as well as private sectors to carry out the sterilisation drive across the city. It is for the first time that the private establishments have joined hands with the civic body in an initiative.
A number of equipment, mechanisms and qualified staff are being used in the operation. The teams set out exactly at 8pm and continue the sterilisation exercise until 6am.
Thabet Al-Tarifi, director-general of Sharjah Municipality, assured that the sterilisation programme is following a systematic plan and the joint efforts to limit the spread of coronavirus will yield results.
He explained that the municipality has provided the necessary equipment, 400 employees and 270 vehicles to sterilise 129 areas in Sharjah city, including 52 commercial, 17 industrial and 60 residential zones as well as 26 main streets and 110 locations of municipal facilities and parks.
Hassan Al-Atefaq, assistant director-general of the Agriculture and Environment Sector, pointed out that the sterilisation operation is meticulously planned and action plans are prepared to complete the work on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. The municipality distributes equipment and cadres to various areas in coordination with its partners to perform their role according to these plans, he underlined.
The municipality officials appreciated the great role played by the private sector companies by volunteering its services and showing its eagerness to participate in the sterilisation work following its sense of social responsibility.
The municipality officials also praised the vital role of all the members of the community in facilitating the municipality's work with the partners through their commitment to stay in their homes during the sterilisation operation.
