Eight brothers donated the money they had kept aside for Haj to ensure stranded Indians in the UAE could join their families back home to celebrate Eid Al Adha.
The Al Ain-based siblings from Kerala sponsored free air tickets for people stuck in each of the seven emirates. It was one of the brothers - Abdumon Abdul Majid - who floated the idea, and others readily contributed their share of Haj money.
The brothers are engaged in different professions. While Majid, Ali Kareem, Shihab, Mohammed Basheer, Faisal and Shihabuddin have been working in Al Ain for the last 25-30 years, Aboobacker and Mohammed Kutty are now planning to settle down in Malappuram district of Kerala. "If God has made us capable of helping others, we must do so. We are able to serve others because of His blessings," said Ali Kareem.
"Once we decided to donate, we wanted to ensure people from all emirates stand to benefit. Our service is part of the work done for the Kerala Muslim Culture Centre in the UAE. We are all members of KMCC's Tanur committee," said Kareem.
KMCC volunteers Shareef MP and Anwar KV coordinated to provide the air tickets. "The 'Pathayapura brothers', as they are popularly known, have been doing charity work for a while now. They have built homes for the destitute in Kerala," Shareef said.
Apart from stranded people across all emirates, beneficiaries of free air tickets (sponsored by the brothers) include people stuck in Musandam governorate of Oman.
