There are many ways in which food can influence our mood and Food Ka Mood, a new Mumbai street food-inspired vegetarian restaurant, on Zabeel Road near the Karama GPO, aims to lift your mood with their delicious presentation of fusion dishes.
There is no dearth of Indian fast food joints in the Karama-Bur Dubai belt, but Food Ka Mood is out to take their cuisine beyond the regular chaats and bhel puris.
Guests can savour innovative dishes like the Food Ka Mood special Pav Bhaji - a half green and half red bhaji served with grilled, buttered pav (buns). The green bhaji (mashed veggie preparation) made with spinach is what gives this dish a different look. Many other dishes have also been given a fusion treatment to make them more appealing.
Another must-try is their mildly fiery Softie Sandwich, a popular snack available on Mumbai streets. It featured fresh cucumber, tomato and potato stuffed between slices of bread liberally spread with a spicy coriander chutney. We should say the chef knows the secret to a good chutney which happens to be a vital component in Indian street food.
We also tried their Red Marble curry, Sizzler Combo, Burmese Khawsuey (a coconut-based curry topped with steamed/fried noodles, similar to Pad Thai) and Pesto Garlic bread.
The highlight of the evening has to be the Red Marble curry which featured cheese corn fried balls served in a rich tomato-based gravy. Full marks for the Arrabiata sauce like flavour.
We also liked their sizzler which had a mix of freshly sauteed veggies in 'Amul' butter and accompanied by cheesy Mexican rice, a cutlet, stuffed paneer, French fries and stuffed capsicum. We would surely recommend the dish to be shared due to its sheer size.
Their beverage section features about 60 different varieties of drinks and faloodas. We tried a few from the Mixology section like the Oreo Shake, Rainbow and American Green.
The American Green, in particular, was refreshing for its mix of green grapes, mint lemon and sweet lime. We ended with a Tirangaa dessert, featuring three milk shakes (mango, strawberry and custard apple) layered with vanilla ice cream. The dish did lift our mood in the end!
With over 16 varieties of dosa including one inspired by the Burj Khalifa and eight types of pav bhaji, a return trip is a must to do justice to the menu.
