Arjun gets ready to rock

ARJUN RAMPAL is pretty excited these days. And it’s not only his forthcoming film Rock On and the rockstar look the actor sports in the film- long hair, bandana, et al -that’s making him smile.

What really has Arjun kicked about is his new found companion-a limited edition Steve Vai electric guitar that the actor’s got for himself.

“I too have been through the phase when everytime you looked into the mirror, you thought there’s a rockstar in the waiting. Only in my case tennis overshadowed music,” he laughs. “So yes, in a way I’ve rediscovered my passion with Rock On.”

“Rock On is a far cry from anything I’ve done or played before - be it in looks or character,” he says of his latest film.

That the film is being promoted more as Farhan Akhtar’s debut film as an actor, does nothing to dampen his spirits.

“But it is his debut film as an actor, so why would anyone feel sidelined in any way. We all have well-etched out roles and are happy the way the film’s turned up. We are very comfortable in our spaces, so there’s no question of any insecurity here,” he clarifies.

Talking about his character Joe Mascarenhas that he plays in the film, Arjun admits that he could in some ways identify with it. “Joe is a man of few words, has seen the ups and downs and is waiting for that one opportunity to prove himself. Also he has a lot of artistic creativity that has never been tapped.”

Does he feel the same way about his career graph in Bollywood, that’s seen the dip before soaring up again?

“Somewhat yes. I agree that the graph didn’t start off on as high a note as I would have wanted it to. But I don’t regret that phase because now I know what will not work.

At the end of the day, a film’s fate at the box-office is still unpredictable. So we can only put in our best and keep our fingers crossed.”
