UAE keen to strengthen ties with Vietnam: Mansouri

DUBAI — Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy will head the UAE delegation for the first meeting of UAE - Vietnam joint committee, which will be held from November 23 to 25 in Hanoi. The Committee will discuss key topics to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly economic, trade and investment cooperation between both countries.

Al Mansouri said UAE’s leadership is keen to strengthen relations with various countries of the world and in particular East Asia and Vietnam. “We are locking to enhance bilateral relations at all levels especially in the economic, trade and investment, energy, finance, education, environment, water and other areas and sectors which are considered as common interests for both countries,” he added.

Al Mansouri said that the visit of Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs to Vietnam in October has paved the way for the first meeting of the Joint Committee, where he discussed ways to enhance cooperation in all fields, including economic, investment and infrastructure.

“Both countries have great desire to promote fruitful cooperation relations in economic and trade and customs and financial and banking, education, technology and environment, water and other areas and also to share experiences in various sectors and take advantage of shared experiences in these areas,” he added.

He noted the importance of the Committee meetings that are going to assess synergies and to propose solutions and mechanisms to overcome all obstacles and take the necessary decisions and actions.

The Minister stated that the participation of more than 16 representatives from ministries, institutions and local companies from federal, local and governments in the meeting of Joint Committee reflects the willingness of the UAE to develop bilateral relations with Vietnam on all levels.

UAE and Vietnam has signed 14 MoU’s in fields of protection and promotion of investment in 2009, double taxation on income in 2009 and the economic and trade cooperation in 1999 and air transport agreement in 2001 and the mutual exemption from the visa requirement for holders of diplomatic passports and officials in October 2010.

There are number of draft agreements and MOUs currently under review in the fields of customs, exchange of information relating to money laundering and financing terrorism, higher education as well as the memorandum of understanding in animal health and quarantine.
