UAE discusses air services agreement with Venezuela

DUBAI — The United Arab Emirates represented by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) discussed recently in Caracas an Air Services Agreement (ASA) with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela .

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), headed the UAE delegation, and Lic.Jose Luis Martinez Bravo, President of the National Civil Aviation Institution headed the Venezuela delegation, with the participation of Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Emirates Airline .

The UAE designated Emirates Airline, Etihad Airways, RAK Airways, Air Arabia and FlyDubai as UAE national airlines under the Agreement while Venezuela will designate its airlines in due course. The agreement draft allows to operate up to 28 weekly passenger frequencies, and up to 16 weekly all- cargo frequencies with any type of aircraft, whether owned, or leased, by the designated Airlines of each country in any type of service (passenger or cargo) on the route between Republic of Venezuela and the UAE.

The agreement also entitles the designated UAE Airlines to exercise the full fifth freedom traffic rights on up to fourteen frequencies per week to and from the intermediate points in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Germany, France, Russia, Netherlands, United kingdom and Belgium. As for the Beyond points will be Bogota, Loma, Quito, San Jose, San Salvador and Mexico City.

The designated Airlines of the UAE is also allowed to exercise the fifth freedom traffic rights on all- Cargo services up to eight frequencies per week to or from any intermediate and any beyond points of their choice. Both delegations agreed also to extend favourable consideration to the requests of the designated Airlines of the parties to operate non- scheduled charter, passenger and all cargo flights on the specified routes.

The agreement draft pointed out to the rights of the designated Airlines of Venezuela to exercise the fifth freedom traffic rights on up to 14 frequencies per week for intermediate points similar to UAE airlines points , and up to 5 beyond points to be decided between the two parties.
