The number of trade permits issued by the commercial registration and licensing sector of the Department of Economic Development (DED) stood at 94,996 by mid-year, a rise of six per cent compared with the same period last year, according to a DED report.
The growth in the number of trade permits reflect the flexible procedures the department has been following.
Omar Bushehab, CEO of the commercial registration and licensing sector said the growth in the number of trade permits reflect the flexibility of procedures the department is following in issuing them, and also mirrors the increase in the volume of sale of local trade establishments.
"The number of trade permits for holding trade fairs and conferences shot up by 4.8 per cent," he said, and pointed to the continued growth of the exhibitions industry in Dubai which he regarded as the gateway of economic growth and the driving force for activities of the private sector.
Bushehab said the number of permits for promotional campaigns increased by 10.9 per cent and advertising billboard permits rose by 3.3 per cent.
Advertising permits vary from fliers, online, boards on internal roads and trademarks.
"Advertising companies often depend on these type of permits to make inroads into new markets, said Bushehab.
"The number of sales, special offers and clearance campaigns rose by 3.5 per cent in mid 2015 compared with the same period last year," he said, adding that this confirmed the confidence of trade establishment owners in business in the emirate on one hand, and the rise of competitive index among companies on the other.
The increase in the number of miscellaneous trade activity permits rose by 14.1 per cent, a higher rate which represents the permits of kiosks, order delivery, ATMs, warehouses and others.
