The UAE loves burgers and this has been affirmed by data shared by Talabat, the largest food delivery service in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena).
Toon Gyssels, chief operating officer at Talabat, said: "As the region's favourite food ordering platform, we're uniquely positioned to reveal some interesting information about customer choices and behaviors while ordering food online. With these insights, we aim to share some of these findings with our customers and partners."
According to the figures, customers in the UAE order almost twice as many burgers as they do pizzas. Those same burger aficionados seem to prefer their meals ordered for dinner in a fascinating factor of 300 per cent when compared to other times of the day. Hamburgers, it would seem, are also more of a weekday food choice, which can be attributed to how easy and quick ordering a burger is, perfect for a busy weekday. And what's a burger without the perfect side dish? Talabat revealed that the UAE's side of choice is curly fries!
The biggest day for burger ordering in the UAE? That would be the June 15, 2018. This coincides with the first day of Eid Al Fitr, which witnessed a giant uptick in burger orders across the UAE. We're not sure what exactly drives people's appetite the way it does, but where you would expect pizzas to be the food of choice for large get-togethers or parties, the stats present an alternative reality. As per Talabat, on a Friday night last year, a customer in Abu Dhabi placed an order for a whopping 82 burgers.
Talabat found that Umm Al Quwain is actually the area that houses the most burger-loving population, with 16 per cent of all orders in 2018 comprising burgers, followed by Al Ain at 12 per cent, and Ras Al Khaimah at 11 per cent.
It would appear that, although people have a growing interest in trying new cuisines, classics like burgers remain all-time favorites amongst UAE residents.
Gyssels added: "This year, we marked 15 years since our launch in 2004, when onlinefood ordering was non-existent in the GCC. Since then, we've played a leading role in transforming the way people experience food. We now have a network of over14,000 restaurant branches offering upwards of 30 cuisines across the seven Emirates. As we grow, we always think experience first, and knowing our customers allows us to cater to their needs." - sandhya@khaleejtimes.com
