EU is biggest market for Indian marine products, says MPEDA

BRUSSELS — The European Union is the biggest market for Indian seafood exports, especially cuttlefish, shrimps and squids, and the prestigious European Seafood Exposition in Brussels saw Indian companies continuing to make their strong presence felt.

Fifteen Indian companies participated in this year's annual fair held from April 24 to 26, which had over 1,600 exhibitors from more than 77 countries and is considered to be the world's largest fair, reported INEPNEXT.

Thirty per cent of marine products from India are exported to the 27 EU member states, said G. Mohan Kumar, chairman of the Marine Products Export Development Authority of India (MPEDA).

He said India exported marine products worth $1.8 billion during the year 2006-07.
