This was told to Khaleej Times by the group's manager for advertising and promotions, referring to the meeting in New Delhi between Crown Prince and Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) Shaikh Sulman bin Hamad Al Khalifa — who recently paid an official visit to India — and the group's Managing Director Yusuffali MA.

An official said that Yusuffali briefed Shaikh Sulman about his Group's investment plans for Bahrain, worth BD50 million, which will include setting up four Lulu hypermarkets and shopping malls.

Bahrain's first Lulu hypermarket will start functioning in Al-Dana Mall by June this year. He said that Yusuffali expressed his happiness as Shaikh Sulman assured all support to Emke Group as well as to any foreign investor. According to Yusuffali, the venture will generate employment opportunities for more than 2,000 Bahraini nationals, who will be trained in various Lulu hypermarkets elsewhere before being posted in Bahrain.

The group's other plans include opening 11 new hypermarkets and shopping malls in the UAE, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and India by the of 2008.
