An exhibition focusing on how to build future cities of innovation and happiness, powered by latest technology as well as renewable energy solutions, will make its debut in April in Dubai, organisers said.
"Today we are announcing debut Future Cities Show 2017 that will be held under the theme of sustainability, innovation and happiness. Our objective is to establish tomorrow's leading cities that can surpass reality," said Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development.
"We aim to build future cities powered by latest technology as well as renewable energy solutions. Building these cities can help make the societies more advanced, civilised and sustainable. They can also achieve sustainable and economic growth that is based on strong foundations, making people happier," said the minister at a press conference.
Sultan Butti bin Mejren, director-general, Dubai Land Department; Faris Saeed, chairman of Sustainable City; Hassan Al Mansouri, acting under-secretary, Ministry of Infrastructure Development; and Dawood Al Shezawi, chairman of Strategic Marketing & Exhibitions and head of the organising committee of the new show, were also present at the conference.
The show's objectives are in line with the innovative strategies launched in Dubai by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. These include Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050. The show also contributes to the UAE Vision 2021 and the UAE national agenda.
Future Cities Show, running from April 2 to 4, is a global platform for companies and organisations engaged in developing an advanced infrastructure all over the world. It will also attract big investors and those who have creative and innovative ideas to build future cities from economic, technological and environmental aspects.
"This show can consolidate once more the status of the UAE and Dubai as an international hub for innovation and creativity as tools for better future," said Dr Al Nuaimi.
"The UAE is witnessing huge developments. We are committed to not only keep up with the latest developments, but also to foresee the challenges in all vital sectors in the country," said the minister.
He said the UAE is determined to face these challenges and work on achieving advancements at various levels. "To achieve this, we would need to develop the cities to be more energy-efficient and to build modern roads, buildings and facilities so we can guarantee continued growth and also emphasise environmental conservation."
The DLD is a partner of the inaugural show. "Our objective is to make future cities based on sustainable development foundations. Dubai is a perfect example of the way to plan future cities," said bin Mejren.
"The Future Cities Show will guarantee the best environmental practices to reduce carbon footprint, less pollution and better luxury for residents of these cities. We hope to see best innovations from participants as these are going to shape the future of coming generations," said Al Shezawi.
