Dnata is buying Plane Handling Ltd., which provides cargo and ramp handling services at London Heathrow Airport and cargo services at Manchester Airport. Plane Handling is currently part of Go-Ahead Group plc.
At the same time, Dnata is acquiring passenger and ramp handling operations at Terminals 3 and 4 at London Heathrow from Aviance Ltd., which also is part of Go-Ahead Group.
The two acquisitions, valued at £15 million (Dh91.5 million), mark Dnata’s entry into the airport handling business in the UK. The deals fit with the firm’s strategy of developing an international network, and Dnata expects to complete the transaction on January 30, 2010, it said in a statement.
Dnata is part of the Emirates Group, which includes Emirates Airline.
Once these acquisitions are complete, Dnata will operate at 19 airports in eight countries, including Australia, China, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore and Switzerland.
“Dnata is committed to further developing the strengths of Plane Handling and ensuring that its airline customers continue to enjoy the highest possible levels of customer service,” Dnata President Gary Chapman said.
Robert Williams, managing director of Plane Handling, will take over responsibility for both UK business units.
Plane Handling and Aviance provide airline and cargo handling to more than 20 airlines at Heathrow and Manchester. They offer a full range of handling activities including passenger services and operations for baggage, ramps, load control, communications and cargo. The combined businesses employ around 1,600 people at the two airports.
Their key customers include the UK’s Virgin Atlantic Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways of Hong Kong, Singapore Airlines, India’s Jet Airways, Qantas of Australia, Air New Zealand, Emirates and Etihad Airways.
