UAE minister lauds ICAI role in nation-building

Chartered Accountants do know a thing or two other than just number crunching. This aspect was evident during the 30th Annual International Seminar 2018 hosted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Abu Dhabi Chapter.
ICAI sub-committee member and Kushal Chordia welcomed Hussain Ebrahim Al Hammadi, UAE's Minister of Education, with these words of appreciation: "Hadhih awal marah atahadath alearabiuh amam aljamie." It was a brief five-sentence welcome in Arabic but something that brought smile, recognition and applause from the minister and also Indian Ambassador to the UAE Navdeep Singh Suri.
The heartwarming welcome set the tone for two-day seminar where discussions varied from art of diplomacy, motivational and technical sessions.
Al Hammadi acknowledged the key role played over the years by ICAI members, especially during the introduction of the tax system. "It is a very successful story," Al Hammadi said.
He noted that CA community was helping the country realise the vision of UAE's Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. "We live the fruit of his vision. And you are here with us trying to make his vision and positive attitude grow. With our united efforts, the UAE will move forward to bigger success in the fourth industrial revolution. Hopefully you will be prepared for the future where technology, innovation and AI will come very soon. Here in the UAE we are preparing and I am sure the Chapter's members will pioneer this," Al Hammadi said.
The Indian ambassador noted that the UAE's ICAI members at more than 5,000 were the biggest number of chartered accountants outside India. "You form a bridge between India and the UAE and connect you provide through expertise," Suri added.
